India Post GDS July 2026 Job Profile

Branch Postmaster (BPM)

The BPM is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Branch Post Office and India Post Payments Bank services. Duties include postal operations, marketing and promotion of Departmental products and services, customer service activities, mail conveyance and mail delivery where applicable.

A selected BPM must arrange accommodation for the Branch Post Office at their own cost and must reside in the post village.

Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)

The ABPM performs duties including sale of stamps and stationery, conveyance and delivery of mail, IPPB deposits and payments, assisting the BPM in postal operations, marketing activities and other duties assigned by senior officers.

ABPMs are required to reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the concerned Post Office.

Dak Sevak

Dak Sevaks may be engaged in Post Offices, Sorting Offices, Mail Offices, Transit Mail Offices, Delivery Centres and other offices of the Department.

Their duties may include handling and delivery of mail and parcels, sale of stamps and stationery, IPPB transactions, assistance in Post Office operations and other duties assigned by the concerned authorities.

The merit list is prepared using marks obtained in the Secondary School Examination of Class 10, with grades/points converted according to the prescribed procedure where applicable.

How to Apply Online for India Post GDS July 2026

1. Visit the official GDS Online Engagement Portal.
2. Read the official notification carefully.
3. Complete the One-Time Registration using an active mobile number and email ID.
4. Verify the mobile number and email ID through OTP.
5. Enter personal details carefully as recorded in the Class 10th certificate.
6. Note the generated Registration Number and password.
7. Login to the portal using the Registration Number and password.
8. Complete the online application form.
9. Enter the required educational and Board details.
10. Select the eligible Division and give post preferences.
11. Upload the required photograph and signature according to the prescribed specifications.
12. Preview the application form and verify all details.
13. Pay the application fee if applicable.
14. Submit the application form within the prescribed deadline.
15. Save or print the final submitted application form for future reference.

• Only one registration is permitted per candidate.
• Duplicate or multiple registrations/applications are strictly prohibited.
• Mobile number and email ID cannot be modified after registration.
• Candidates should regularly visit the GDS Online Engagement Portal for updates.
• Applications with blurred or illegible photographs/signatures may be rejected.
• No correction will be allowed after the correction window closes.
• Past experience or service of any kind will not be considered for selection.
• Persons holding an elective office will not be considered for engagement.
• GDSs are Civil Post holders but are outside the regular Civil Services of the Union of India.
• GDS engagement is governed by the GDS (Conduct and Engagement) Rules, 2020, as revised from time to time.
